Mary Porteous, Office Staff, Dental Hygiene

Mary Porteous RDH, BS, MS is a graduate of the University of California, San Francisco, School of Dentistry, where she earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Dental Hygiene.

She did post graduate research in Periodontics (gum and bone disease), and taught as a Clinical Instructor at UCSF.  She currently lectures at the University on Research Software.   She is past president of the Dental Alumni Association and has been serving on the Executive Council since 2002

Mary is a Member of the Academy of Laser Dentistry, a member of their Information Network Team, and a Speaker at the Academy of Laser Dentistry Conference.  Mary does research on the role of soft tissue lasers in the treatment of periodontal disease.   Her manuscript has been recently published in the Journal of Dental Hygiene.

Mary is the 2015 Recipient of the UCSF School of Dentistry DAA Medal of Honor, the highest award given by the dental alumni association. This award is given in recognition for Mary’s contributions to her profession, UCSF, and the dental community.

Outside the office, Mary’s passions include spending time with her adorable grandchildren, cycling, scuba diving, golfing, yoga, snow and waterskiing.
